News from the Brusseau Design Group
The Bartlett Parks Foundation along with the Bartlett Park District retained the services of the Brusseau Design Group, LLC to design an Inclusive Playground at Bartlett Park. The desire was to provide a play space for children of all abilities as well as children without disabilities, caregivers, siblings, parents and grandparents. The playground would offer a variety of experiences including, socialization, teamwork, sensory, risk/reward, role play, fantasy play, fitness, interactive play, cooperation, dramatic play and imaginative play.
Playground design elements include an arrival and orientation plaza, a playground orientation loop, playground spaces or pods, gathering spaces, walks and paths. The proposed design is based on a nature theme and includes a woodland forest treehouse, a sensory garden with chalk wall, a sand play area with elevated sand tables, a meadow with a spider web, dragonfly, and mushrooms, a pond and sky area with a cozy cocoon, bumblebee, omni spinner, cattail spinners and talk tubes, a musical and nature sound area with musical instruments, nature sound bollards, and aero glider, and a swing area. Poured in place rubber surfacing will be used to enhance the nature theme with rainbows, the sun, the moon, butterflies and a pond cast into the surface.
An entry feature, site furnishings and landscape plantings will round out the development. The Bartlett Parks Foundation is currently raising funds for this project and hopes to have the project completed by 2017.
