The President's Series - Todd Abrams
Scott Brown, Director of Business Development for the W-T Family of Companies, dives into the professional experience and lives of our company presidents. This month: Todd Abrams, Vice President of W-T Civil Engineering, LLC.
What are some of the changes you have seen in our industry, since you joined W-T as a project manager, back in 2003?
The speed at which we are expected to complete tasks; availability of information on the internet, such as aerial photos, topography, and street view; and the reduction in use of paper. We used to always have a full set of the current drawings on hand to make copies. Everything is done with PDFs today.
You are a proud alum of Valparaiso University, out of Indiana. What are some of your fondest memories from the engineering school? Also, what are your thoughts on their chances in the NCAA Final Four tournament this year?
They are already out of the NCAA Tournament. They never really had much chance. I enjoyed always learning something every day and keeping my brain active.
What separates W-T Civil Engineering from its competitors?
Our quality and our customer service. We have the best product (construction drawings) and we strive to provide the most cost effective and functional design that meets the expectations of our clients.
A large part of the work you do, is working with attorneys on eminent domain and land acquisition projects. Where does your expertise come in, on these projects?
Having a solid understanding of site design. Experience on hundreds of projects throughout the Chicagoland area and the Midwest gives me a solid understanding of the main phases of a development project. These phases include design development, permitting, creation of the construction documents, bidding, construction, and project closeout.
From what I understand, you enjoy traveling the world. What is the last place you visited, and what was your favorite part about the trip?
The last place I visited was Peru. I visited Lima and Cusco. While in Cusco I went to Machu Picchu. Going to Machu Picchu was my favorite part of the trip.
